Local Players Battle Pros at APP Cayman, But Fall Short of Medals

Local Players Battle Pros at APP Cayman: The Association of Pickleball Players (APP) hosted a pro event in George Town, Cayman Islands, this past weekend. The event served as a test run at the newly built 24-court Pickleball Cayman facility, drawing a mix of APP touring pros and local players. The tournament did not offer APP ranking points but featured prize money and a large turnout of over 240 competitors.

Pros and Local Players Take the Stage

With recent PWR commitments canceled, several top APP professionals took advantage of the opportunity to compete in a scenic Caribbean setting. Many players saw the event as both a competitive outing and a brief getaway. The local club, which has five teaching pros, welcomed the traveling competitors, with some local instructors also participating.

Local pro Michael Carse recorded the best finish among Cayman players, securing 8th place in Open Doubles. Dana Karani finished 18th in both Open Doubles and Open Singles, while Steve Thompson placed 16th in Open Doubles. Despite strong efforts, no local players reached the medal rounds.

No Senior Pro Events at This Stop

Unlike other APP tournaments, this event did not include Senior Pro divisions. Many of the regular Senior Pros were attending an NPL combine in Houston, leaving the focus entirely on the Open categories.

Looking Ahead

The successful turnout and level of play at the Cayman Islands event indicate potential for future pro tournaments at Pickleball Cayman. The facility, designed to accommodate high-level competition, could become a destination for more professional events in the future.
