Major Moments from Championship Sunday

Will Howells stole the spotlight with three titles. He beat Grayson Goldin in men’s pro singles, teamed with Jack Munro to win men’s pro doubles, and won mixed doubles alongside Bobbi Oshiro. With these wins, Howells became just the 10th player in APP Tour history to earn a Triple Crown.

In women’s pro singles, Pei Chuan Kao of Taiwan made a strong APP debut, winning her first gold medal by defeating Sofia Sewing. It was her first tournament and her first title on the APP Tour.

Emily Cederquist and Yana Newell claimed their second women’s pro doubles title. They topped Simone Jardim and Amanda Hendry, adding to their first win in Newport Beach last July.

Records, Celebrities, and Fan Engagement

Will Howells and Jack Munro’s gold was their fourth straight men’s pro doubles title of the year. Their run continues as one of the top streaks in the 2025 APP season.

Super Bowl champions Noah Gray and Gehrig Dieter played together in men’s doubles at the 4.0 level. Gray and Dieter, both former Kansas City Chiefs players, added excitement with their crossover from football to pickleball.

The crowd at The Fort enjoyed eight rounds of swag giveaways on Championship Sunday. Young players from the APP Academy tossed shirts and merch to the packed stands, keeping fans engaged between matches.

Behind the Scenes and Off the Court

Erik Lange contributed 13 blog posts during the tournament. His player blog offered behind-the-scenes stories, match reflections, and lessons from the event, giving fans a player’s view of the action.

A total of 25 matches were livestreamed from Championship Court, featuring 59 games. The coverage helped fans across the country follow the tournament from home.

Fort Lauderdale, the largest city in Broward County, showed strong support. With a population of 180,000, local fans filled The Fort throughout the tournament, making it one of the best-attended stops on the APP calendar.

What’s Next for the APP Tour

The next stop on the APP Tour is just 28 days away, as the tour heads to Cincinnati for the APP Vlasic Classic. With the new APP Passport program in place, players will be aiming not only for medals, but also to qualify for the 2025 APP Tour Championships in December.

The Fort Lauderdale Open showed the depth of talent across the APP Tour, from rising stars like Kao to proven champions like Howells. It also highlighted the tour’s growing fanbase and strong community support.
