Pickleball Cayman is currently hosting an exciting weekend of matches as 16 professional players from the Association of Pickleball Players compete in the ongoing BLACKwater Team Cup. The event, which kicked off Friday, 13 June, is taking place at the Pickleball Cayman club on Smith Road.
Weekend of Matches and Unique Format
The action began Friday at 5:00 p.m. with a special pro-amateur event. Pickleball Cayman members are bidding for a chance to team up with professionals, with the highest bidders selecting their preferred pros. All participants are guaranteed at least five matches, and members not paired with a pro are not being charged.
This first-of-its-kind team-style competition for the island is featuring 16 top players, including Megan Fudge, Jack Munro, Susannah Barr, Ryler DeHeart, Bobbi Oshiro, Tanner Tomassi, Sofia Sewing, Max Manthou, Shelby Bates, Andre Mick, Emilia Schmidt, Casey Diamond, Amanda Hendry, Jack Foster, Riley Bohnert, and Ben Newell.
Main Tournament Now in Full Swing
The BLACKwater Team Cup is continuing through the weekend, with matches being played using rally scoring to 21 points. Entry remains free for spectators, and matches are beginning at 1:00 p.m. on both Saturday and Sunday.
The pros have been split into four teams by local captains—each consisting of two male and two female players. Saturday is featuring round-robin team matchups, and on Sunday, the top teams will battle it out in the semi-finals at 1:00 p.m., followed by the championship match at 5:00 p.m.
