MLP Announces Key Updates to Trades and Waiver Wire for 2025

MLP Announces Key Updates: Major League Pickleball (MLP) by Margaritaville has disclosed important updates to its trades and waiver wire system for the 2025 season. The season will begin in Orlando, FL, at the USTA National Campus from April 24-27, with significant changes that will impact team strategies and player movements.

Major League Pickleball Trade Windows

For the 2025 season, Major League Pickleball has introduced two trade windows:

  • Trade Window 1: Currently open, this window allows teams to exchange players or cash compensation up to $200,000. It will close on Feb. 15, before teams must submit which players they are dropping from their rosters.
  • Trade Window 2: This window will open after Premier and Challenger Free Agency on Mar. 3 and will run through July 14, following the Mid-Season Tournament. During this period, teams can exchange players, cash compensation up to $200,000, or waiver wire selections.

Waiver Wire

The 2025 season will feature one Waiver Wire Period compared to the three periods available last year. This change simplifies the process for teams to acquire players from other teams. The Waiver Wire Period will take place after the MLP Salt Lake City event, the fifth regular season event of the year.

  • Premier Waiver Period: June 11
  • Challenger Waiver Period: June 12

These dates will allow teams to adjust their rosters and strengthen their lineups midway through the season.

Impact on the 2025 Season

These changes to the trade and waiver wire systems are designed to create more strategic opportunities for teams while also streamlining the process.

The limited number of trade windows and a single waiver wire period will push teams to carefully consider their moves, especially with the increased flexibility of trades and player exchanges.

With the season beginning soon and important operational dates approaching, fans and teams are looking forward to how the competition will unfold and how these new changes will impact team rosters and strategies.
