The Rise of Major League Pickleball, How 4 Teams Are Changing the Face of American Sports

Rise of Major League Pickleball: Four Major League Pickleball teams—DC Pickleball Team, Florida Smash, Las Vegas Night Owls, and Nashville Chefs—continue to boost the sport’s popularity in 2024 and beyond. Backed by top athletes and business leaders, each team brings fresh energy, new fans, and strong goals to grow pickleball nationwide.

DC Pickleball Team Brings Game to New Audiences

The DC Pickleball Team (DCPT) joined the MLP in 2023. The team is co-owned by Rich Kleiman and NBA star Kevin Durant through Boardroom Sports Holdings. DCPT plays at the Challenger Level and works hard to make pickleball more accessible.

The team focuses on helping underserved groups in Washington, D.C. They are building strong links with local people to share the sport and bring more fans into the game.

Florida Smash Rooted in Local Pickleball Culture

Florida Smash was created in 2022 by Travis Rettenmaier, Graham D’Amico, Julio DePietro, Molly Joseph, and Andrew Olson. Travis and Graham met on pickleball courts in St. Petersburg, Florida. Their passion led to the birth of a pro team.

With strong support from Tampa Bay, Florida Smash represents one of the sport’s most active regions. Steve Kuhn, the founder of MLP and a friend of the group, helped guide them into the league.

Las Vegas Night Owls Backed by Sports Legends

Las Vegas Night Owls launched in 2022. The team is co-owned by Tom Brady, Kim Clijsters, Knighthead Capital, Kaitlyn Kerr, and Callie Simpkins. These owners bring skills from top sports and business backgrounds.

The team is focused on helping MLP grow and setting high standards for the future of pickleball. Their experience adds strength and trust to the league.

Nashville Chefs Bring Fresh Start and Big Goals

The Nashville Chefs were once called the Frisco Pandas. They began in Frisco, Texas in 2023, started by Dude Perfect. In 2024, The Kitchen took over team operations and moved them to Nashville.

Now, the Chefs are aiming for a Challenger Level title in 2025. The Kitchen leads the team’s growth in marketing, sponsorships, and operations.

What It Means for Pickleball’s Growth

These four teams are not just playing to win. They are working to grow pickleball, connect with fans, and open doors for new players. With stars like Tom Brady and Kevin Durant involved, the sport is getting more attention and respect. Their efforts could push MLP to new levels of success.
