Mad Drops Overcome Injuries and Suspension
The Los Angeles Mad Drops played one of their best matches of the season on Saturday morning. They beat the Carolina Hogs in regulation, losing only one game to brothers Ben Johns and Collin Johns. The team finally had its full roster on the court after weeks of lineup challenges.
Quang Duong had been out during most of 2025 MLP Phoenix because of a suspension, and Hunter Johnson missed 2025 MLP Orlando due to an injury. Earlier in the year, Wesley Burrows was signed to fill in for Thomas Wilson, who continues to deal with health problems.
The team also made changes off the court. Catherine Parenteau’s wife, Athena Trouillot, was promoted from Head Coach to General Manager at the start of the season. On May 27, just after 2025 MLP Austin and before 2025 MLP Phoenix, the Mad Drops traded Angie Walker to the Bay Area Breakers. In return, they received Danna Funaro and cash.
Big Win Against St. Louis Sets the Tone
The Mad Drops began their Daytona campaign by handing the St. Louis Shock their first loss of the season. The team of Anna Bright, Kate Fahey, Hayden Patriquin, and Gabe Tardio lost in a DreamBreaker to the strong Mad Drops singles lineup.
Los Angeles won the women’s doubles match and the second mixed doubles match (Catherine Parenteau and Quang Duong vs. Anna Bright and Hayden Patriquin). They dropped the men’s doubles and the first mixed match (Jade Kawamoto and Hunter Johnson vs. Kate Fahey and Gabe Tardio). The DreamBreaker ended with a solid 21-12 win for the Mad Drops.

Full Roster Boosts Team Confidence
Saturday morning’s win against the Carolina Hogs was another big moment. It showed how much stronger the team is with all players present. During a post-game interview, lead broadcaster Michelle McMahon said:
“You guys are fully healthy for the first time in a while and fully available … what does it mean to this team to be able to win this way with a full roster?”
Quang Duong replied,
“Honestly, I’m just focused on not letting the team down, that’s probably my biggest motivation. I just come out to the court, try my best, and let things happen.”
Playoff Push Continues This Weekend
With their full roster finally on court, the Los Angeles Mad Drops are pushing hard for a playoff spot. They moved from #8 to #6 in the Premier standings after Saturday morning’s win. They will face the Texas Ranchers at 2:30 p.m. ET on Saturday. On Sunday, they play the New York Hustlers at 10:00 a.m. ET and the Chicago Slice at 11:45 a.m. ET, both on Grandstand Court.
This weekend gives the Mad Drops a strong chance to lock in more wins and strengthen their position heading into the final stretch of the regular season.
