Major League Pickleball Shake-Up: Mari Humberg Returns to New Jersey 5s as Christa Gecheva Heads to DC in Bold Roster Move

Mari Humberg Returns to New Jersey 5s: Major League Pickleball confirmed a trade on Thursday morning between the New Jersey 5s and the DC Pickleball Team. Mari Humberg is heading back to the New Jersey 5s, while Christa Gecheva and cash considerations are moving to DC.

Deal Brings Humberg Back to Familiar Team

Mari Humberg was originally traded from the New Jersey 5s to the Brooklyn Aces, which later became the DC Pickleball Team, just before the player drop deadline. Now, she returns to New Jersey, a team that currently sits at the top of the standings with a 12-3 record and 36 points.

The New Jersey 5s now feature Anna Leigh Waters, Meghan Dizon, Mari Humberg, Zane Navratil, Will Howells, and Craig Johnson.

New Jersey, like all MLP teams, was required to drop at least one player from its 2024 roster. This move helps them reset their lineup and welcome back a familiar face.

Gecheva Joins DC’s Challenger Roster

Christa Gecheva will now compete with the DC Pickleball Team at the Challenger level. DC is currently in third place with a 2-3 record and 9 points. Her new teammates include Andrea Koop, Daniel de la Rosa, and Stefan Auvergne.

Gecheva brings fresh talent to a squad looking to climb the standings during the next phase of the season.

How the Trade Could Shape the Season

This trade gives New Jersey a strong, experienced player in Mari Humberg, just as they push toward the final stretch. For DC, adding Christa Gecheva could bring balance to their lineup as they aim to improve their Challenger performance.

The move may also influence future roster changes as teams adjust to stay competitive.

News in Brief: Mari Humberg Returns to New Jersey 5s

Mari Humberg has rejoined the New Jersey 5s in a Major League Pickleball trade with the DC Pickleball Team. In return, DC receives Christa Gecheva and cash. The trade strengthens New Jersey’s top-ranked team and gives DC new options in the Challenger division as the season continues.
