Forsythe had already played briefly on Friday against the Columbus Sliders, but Saturday gave him the chance to play a full match. He teamed up with Zane Ford in men’s doubles and Helena Jansen in mixed doubles.

Balancing Teaching and Pickleball
Erik Forsythe is well-known as one of the top pickleball players in the northeast. He also works as a first-grade teacher at John F. Kennedy Elementary School in West Babylon on Long Island.
This job means Forsythe must train during late hours.
“I get my training in usually from 9pm to 11pm or 8pm to 10pm. Then I wake up early and go to the gym before school. I try to grind as much as I can.”(Erik Forsythe)

Challenging Matches Against Orlando
Saturday’s games were tough for Forsythe and the Hustlers. In men’s doubles, he and Zane Ford faced Federico Staksrud and Dylan Frazier. In mixed doubles, he played with Helena Jansen against Lacy Schneemann and Federico Staksrud.
Although the Hustlers lost both games, Forsythe valued the experience of playing at this level.
“I tried to make the best of it. I think I showed out a little better today with a little bit of a better warmup, but it was a great opportunity. I knew I had to come out firing. With one game to 11 it’s kind of put up or shut up, and I tried to show out as best I could.”(Erik Forsythe)
Special Connection with the Hustlers
Forsythe shared that he has known New York Hustlers General Manager Corey Benbasset for years, which made joining the team feel even more meaningful.
“I’ve known Corey for a few years now and have always tried to be a part of the Hustlers’ ecosystem, so to get called up by him was an honor and a privilege.”(Erik Forsythe)
What Comes Next
Erik Forsythe is expected to stay in the Hustlers lineup for the team’s final matches on Sunday. The New York Hustlers will play the Carolina Hogs and the Brooklyn Pickleball Team as they look to finish their event strong.
Forsythe’s efforts show how hard players work to balance life and competition. His story will likely inspire others who hope to break into Major League Pickleball.
