Sunday Showdowns: MLP New York Ends with Nine Action-Packed Matches

Major League Pickleball New York: Major League Pickleball New York will end on Sunday with nine matches planned on Championship Court and Grandstand Court at Sportime Randall’s Island. Teams will fight for better rankings as the Mid-Season Tournament approaches. Action will start at 10 a.m. Eastern Time with the Carolina Hogs facing the New York Hustlers.

Carolina Hogs will also take on the Brooklyn Pickleball Team later in the day. The Hogs, with a record of four wins and thirteen losses, have gained momentum. They recently added Etta Tuionetoa and Roscoe Bellamy to the roster. This helped them beat the Orlando Squeeze and Miami Pickleball Club earlier in the weekend.

Carolina and Brooklyn Face Off

The match between Carolina Hogs and Brooklyn Pickleball Team could be the most exciting of the event. Brooklyn has twelve wins and five losses so far. They will compete without Dekel Bar and Pat Smith, who are both injured. AJ Koller will step in as a substitute. Carolina hopes Ben Johns and Roscoe Bellamy will help secure a men’s doubles win. Ben Johns and Etta Tuionetoa will also aim for success in mixed doubles. If both teams split games, it could lead to a DreamBreaker, a tiebreaker round that looks balanced on paper.

Columbus Sliders on a Roll

The Columbus Sliders have been strong all weekend. They have thirteen wins and five losses overall and are undefeated in New York with three wins. Even more impressive, they have not dropped a game so far. Columbus averages 2.17 points per match. They will try to beat Miami Pickleball Club and Orlando Squeeze on Sunday to pass Brooklyn’s average of 2.29 points per match. This would give them a better position going into the Mid-Season Tournament.

New York Hustlers Seek First Home Win

The New York Hustlers have struggled this season, winning only three matches and losing fourteen. They have yet to win on their home court. With Donald Young dealing with a shoulder injury, on-site alternate and elementary school teacher Erik Forsythe will continue to fill in. The Hustlers will attempt to surprise Carolina Hogs and Brooklyn Pickleball Team.

Top Challenger Teams Collide

At the Challenger level, the Las Vegas Night Owls and Nashville Chefs will face off. Las Vegas has twelve wins and two losses. Nashville holds ten wins and four losses and comes in on a seven-match winning streak. Nashville has never beaten Las Vegas in their two previous meetings. Michelle Esquivel has played a big role for the Chefs. She holds a record of nineteen wins and nine losses, ranking third among Challenger players. Nashville will need her strong play to finally overcome Las Vegas and stay hot.

This final day in New York will have a major impact on team standings. Wins could help teams move up before the next tournament. Many fans will watch closely to see if Carolina can stay hot, if Columbus can keep winning, and if Nashville can break their losing streak to Las Vegas.
