Strong Start in Doubles Matches
The match began with women’s doubles, where Christa Gecheva and Andrea Koop of the D.C. Pickleball Team played Martina Frantova and Paula Rives of Florida Smash. Gecheva and Koop dominated the court, winning the game 11-4 and putting their team ahead early.
In the men’s doubles match, Daniel De la Rosa and Rafa Hewett of D.C. Pickleball Team faced off against Travis Rettenmaier and Cason Campbell of Florida Smash. De la Rosa and Hewett had a strong performance, winning the match 11-3 and increasing their team’s lead to 2-0.
Florida Tries to Fight Back in Mixed Doubles
Florida Smash came back strong in the first mixed doubles game. Travis Rettenmaier and Paula Rives beat Rafa Hewett and Christa Gecheva 11-8, giving Florida Smash their first win of the match.
However, in the second mixed doubles match, Daniel De la Rosa and Andrea Koop of the D.C. Pickleball Team won 11-5 against Cason Campbell and Martina Frantova, which secured the overall victory for the D.C. Pickleball Team with a 3-1 match score.
Dreambreaker Not Needed
Since D.C. Pickleball Team had already won three out of the four matches, the Dreambreaker tiebreaker was not played. The full Dreambreaker lineup had been prepared, with Travis Rettenmaier, Paula Rives, Cason Campbell, and Martina Frantova ready for Florida Smash, while Rafa Hewett, Christa Gecheva, Daniel De la Rosa, and Andrea Koop were listed for D.C.
