Liz Truluck Shines at MLP Australia: Liz Truluck, currently holding impressive rankings in Women’s Doubles (37th), Mixed Doubles (32nd), and Women’s Singles (18th) on the PPA Tour, is making waves at Major League Pickleball (MLP) Australia. From the picturesque Gold Coast, Truluck provides an insider’s view of her experience with the Fast Fours team.

The first round saw the Fast Fours, including George Wall, Lucas Pascoe, Jamie Wei, and Truluck herself, narrowly lose to the Western Vipers. The Vipers, comprised of Shelby Bates, Emilia Schmidt, Andy Horridge, and Ryan Henry, edged out the Fast Fours in gendered doubles matches with scores of 22-20. Despite strong starts, the Vipers’ resilience proved decisive.

Mixed Doubles and Major Victories

In the mixed doubles, Wall and Wei managed to secure a win, 21-19, though Truluck and Pascoe faced difficulties in their second mixed match. The Vipers’ superior performance across the board led to their victory.

The first day’s standout performances came from the Brisbane Breakers, South East Asia Surge, Sydney Smash, and Gold Coast Glory, each achieving 3-1 victories. A particularly thrilling encounter featured the Asia Aces, who delivered a remarkable performance with a Dreambreaker win, 21-12, over the Northern Crocs.

Victory in Women’s Doubles

The following day, Truluck and Wei teamed up to claim gold in Women’s Doubles, overcoming four tough teams. Their notable match against Pei Chuan Kao and Aussie star Danni-Elle Townsend stretched over an hour. After losing the first game 12-10, Truluck and Wei fought back to win the subsequent games and advance to the semifinals.

There, they faced Jamie Haas and Michelle Esquivel, who had to retire midway through the second game due to injury. In the finals, Truluck and Wei faced Katy Hart and Roos Van Reek. Despite losing the second game after a strong start, they executed a winning strategy in the third game to secure the gold medal.

The Path to Semifinals

With minimal rest, Truluck and the Fast Fours returned for the MLPA second round against the Southern Stars. The Fast Fours required a decisive 4-0 win to improve their standings. Truluck and Wei edged out in women’s doubles, 22-20, and the team went on to win mixed doubles matches.

The results led to the Surge and Glory clinching the top two spots, while the Smash and Vipers secured their places in the semifinals. The Fast Fours achieved a crucial 3-1 victory against the Breakers, while the Vipers won in a long, challenging Dreambreaker.
