MLP 2024 Best Performers: As the Major League Pickleball regular season draws to a close, it’s time to shine a spotlight on the standout performers who have left their mark on this thrilling competition. From the top players to the most impactful trades, these accolades reflect the skill, teamwork, and determination that define the league.
Best Player: Anna Leigh Waters
The coveted title of Best Player goes to Anna Leigh Waters, who dominated the statistical charts throughout the season. Anna Leigh Waters showcased her undeniable talent and relentless determination, solidifying her position as a leading contender. Her consistent performances made her not just a top player, but a true force on the court. Following closely behind, Anna Bright claims the runner-up spot, further demonstrating her prowess and competitiveness.
MVP: Will Howells
In a surprising turn of events, the MVP award is bestowed upon Will Howells. Drafted late in the season, Will Howells quickly emerged as a pivotal player, performing with the tenacity of a low first-round or high second-round pick. While Anna Leigh Waters certainly had an outstanding season, it was Will Howells who played a critical role in propelling his team to success. This recognition serves to correct my earlier preseason ratings, which admittedly underestimated his impact. Rounding out the MVP honors are Anna Leigh Waters and Anna Bright, both of whom showcased remarkable skills throughout the season.
Best Pick: Will Howells
In a clear reflection of his remarkable season, Will Howells also claims the title for Best Pick. His performance was undeniably impressive, standing out above the competition. Following him in this category are Megan Fahey and Lindsay Klinger, both of whom made notable contributions to their teams.
Best Teammate: Zane Navratil
Recognizing the importance of chemistry in Major League Pickleball, the Best Teammate award goes to Zane Navratil. Often referred to as the straw that stirs the New Jersey drink, Zane Navratil’s influence extends beyond his personal record, making him an invaluable asset to his team. Anna Bright follows as the runner-up, highlighting her supportive role and teamwork.
Best Pickup/Trade: Texas Ranchers
When it comes to impactful transactions, the award for Best Pickup/Trade undoubtedly goes to the Texas Ranchers, who made headlines with their acquisition of Quang Duong. This move stands out as the most significant trade of the year, with no other transaction coming close in comparison. Additionally, the Utah Black Diamonds’ acquisition of Connor Garnett for Jay Devilliers deserves recognition, as Connor Garnett’s arrival bolstered the team’s chemistry and competitiveness, transforming them into a more formidable force.
