Dreambreaker Brings High Drama to The MiLP Med City Holiday Classic Tournament in Rochester

MiLP Med City Holiday Classic Tournament: The registration for the highly anticipated MiLP (Minor League Pickleball) event Med City Holiday Classic in Rochester, Minnesota, has concluded, with its innovative MLPlay team competition format capturing the attention of players and spectators. The competition will take place at Chipshots (3708 N Broadway Ave, STE 140), offering a fun yet challenging atmosphere for amateur pickleball teams. Registration closed on November 28, 2024, marking the final preparations before the event starts on December 1, 2024.

Pickleball Event Format and Structure

The Dink Minor League Pickleball stands out for its team competition format, where four-player teams (2 women and 2 men) battle it out using the MLPlay system. The format consists of four 21-point games: one women’s doubles match, one men’s doubles, and two mixed doubles.

If the teams are tied 2-2, the tie-breaker is the Dreambreaker, where each team sends out one player to face off in a singles match. Players alternate every four rallies until someone scores 21 points and wins by two.

Key Details of the Format

  • MLPlay Format: Teams compete in 4 matches—2 doubles (1 women’s, 1 men’s) and 2 mixed doubles
  • Dreambreaker: Used to decide ties, with alternating singles play until one player reaches 21 points
  • Registration Price: $60 per player

Duplication of Success: The Future of Pickleball

The Dink Minor League Pickleball represents the future of the sport, blending competitive play with social interaction. The MLPlay™ format is specifically designed to offer a level playing field where men and women compete together, creating a truly inclusive competition that continues to grow in popularity.

DUPR Divisions

For participants, the tournament offers a structured division system based on the DUPR (Dynamic Universal Pickleball Rating) to ensure balanced and competitive play. Teams are grouped into divisions with specific maximum team ratings:

  • DUPR 20: Team’s aggregate must not exceed 20.99
  • DUPR 18: Team’s aggregate must not exceed 18.30 (max individual rating: 5.10)
  • DUPR 16: Team’s aggregate must not exceed 16.30 (max individual rating: 4.60)
  • DUPR 14: Team’s aggregate must not exceed 14.30 (max individual rating: 4.10)
  • DUPR 12: Team’s aggregate must not exceed 12.30 (max individual rating: 3.60)

Once registered, the team’s rating is locked, ensuring that future rating changes do not affect their eligibility or division placement. Players without a rating can still participate, as their estimated rating will be verified by the tournament director.

Single and Substitute Registrations

Players signing up individually must indicate their team name and DUPR division (e.g., “Mad Drops – 18”). For those unable to form a team, the tournament director will attempt to place them with existing teams. If placement is not possible, players will receive a refund.
