A Strong Performance
Barber and his doubles partner, Dylan Galarza, made a strong run in the tournament. The duo played in a round-robin format, with the top team advancing to the gold medal match.
Barber and Galarza finished second, which earned them a spot in the semifinals. In their semifinal match, they won 11-6, 11-3, advancing to the championship match.
In the final, despite losing the first set 11-5, Barber and Galarza fought hard in the second set, but ultimately fell short, losing 11-9. Their performance earned them a silver medal.
“When you play at such a high level, there is no room for mistake,” (Jett Barbersaid after the match).
Training and Preparation
Barber’s success comes after months of intense training. He practices multiple times a week at Rotary Park, where he focuses on drilling to improve specific skills.
Barber also follows a rigorous fitness routine that includes High-Intensity Interval Training (HIIT), speed and agility drills, plyometrics, and cardio three times a week. His aggressive playstyle and conditioning allow him to battle for every point.
A Bright Future
Barber, who is sponsored by Proton Headquarters in Scottsdale, was the youngest player to qualify for the PPA Championship. He has another year of eligibility at this level, as the other competitors are moving to the 13-16 age division. Barber’s strong performance at the championship shows his potential for future success in the sport.
Barber’s dedication to improving his game and his exceptional performance at such a young age have set the stage for a promising pickleball career. As he continues to develop his skills, he could become one of the top players in the sport.
