Strong Start and Injury Timeout
Parenteau and Staksrud took the first game in a hard-fought battle. However, during the second game, Ignatowich called a medical timeout due to a back injury he had been managing throughout the tournament.
Although he returned to the court, it was clear that he was not playing at full strength. Parenteau and Staksrud took advantage of the situation and won the second game comfortably to seal the victory.
Staksrud’s Thoughts on the Injury
After the match, Staksrud spoke about the challenges of facing an opponent dealing with an injury.
“It’s kind of tricky because you don’t want to be focusing on that—you want to be focusing on your own game and executing, but it’s tough not to see when a player calls a medical timeout,”. “Hopefully it’s nothing too serious because it’s great to have James out here.”(Federico Staksrud )
A Strong Start for the Pair
This is only Parenteau and Staksrud’s second tournament together, but they are quickly showing their potential as a top mixed doubles team. The duo won bronze in Kansas City back in August and have now guaranteed a silver medal at the Zimmer Biomet Masters.
“We’re both very steady, so I think we can get past a lot of teams even when we’re not playing our best,”. “I feel like that’s kind of what we’ve been doing all week.”(Catherine Parenteau)
Looking Forward to the Final
Parenteau and Staksrud will face Anna Leigh Waters and Ben Johns in the mixed doubles final on Sunday. Despite not playing their best tennis yet, the pair is optimistic about their chances.
“Hopefully we’re keeping it for tomorrow,” (Catherine Parenteau).
