Johns Brothers End 2025 Pickleball Season with PPA Masters Victory

Johns Brothers End 2025 Pickleball Season: Ben Johns and Collin Johns dominantly ended their 2025 season by winning gold at the 2025 Zimmer Biomet The Masters. The victory marked their final tournament together after announcing their decision to split before the season. Their performance at one of the year’s biggest events raised questions about their decision to part ways.

The PPA Masters win was a high point in an otherwise challenging year for the brothers, who had faced their longest podium drought since they began competing in 2021. Despite these difficulties, Collin emphasized in a recent interview on the PicklePod that the decision to split was the best move for their personal and professional growth.

Challenges and Decisions Behind the Split

The decision to split came after years of unparalleled success, including seven titles in 2024. However, the brothers endured struggles last season, which tested their partnership. Collin reflected on the difficulty of competing with a sibling, noting that their close relationship sometimes complicated their teamwork.

“Playing with a sibling, to begin with, is always going to be difficult because you’re able to say and do things with your brother that you’re not gonna be able to do with other people because you know they’re gonna forgive you for it.” – (Collin Johns)

He added that while they complemented each other well and stuck to their game plans, tensions arose during difficult stretches.

“I think we’ve handled that pretty well over the years, and we’ve complemented each other quite well in other areas to where we can always be on the same page with strategy and with temperament and collectively stick to game plans that we feel give us advantages over other people. Knowing that, you try and leverage it as best you can, but there are times where it can work against you, and I think it was starting to work against us at times last year.” – (Collin Johns)

Going Out on Top

Winning the PPA Masters provided a sense of closure for the duo. Collin shared that the victory might not have happened if they hadn’t made the decision to split.

“I know for us it was the best decision, no matter what happened in this tournament. Of course it feels awesome to go out on top, but I also think we approached this tournament differently, knowing that it was our last one for this year.” – (Collin Johns)

Collin also noted that the decision to split has revived their excitement for the sport.

“Maybe had we not agreed to split, this wouldn’t have happened. It’s impossible to know, but I know that we made the right decision because I think we’re both more excited and happier to play with other people this year, and I think it’ll be good for our individual games. From a mental health perspective, it’s what we needed to do.” – (Collin Johns)

Looking Ahead

The Johns brothers have left an indelible mark on men’s doubles pickleball, with their dominance redefining the game since 2021.

Their decision to split signals a new chapter, not only for their careers but also for the sport, as fans eagerly await how their individual journeys unfold.
