A Battle of Resilience
Todd started strong, capitalizing on Buckner’s unforced errors to take the first game with ease. In the second, she built a commanding 10-5 lead and appeared to be on the verge of victory. However, Buckner found her rhythm, saving four match points and forcing a decisive third game.
Riding that momentum, Buckner surged ahead 5-2 in the final game, but Todd responded with an eight-point run, putting herself in a familiar position with another 10-5 advantage. This time, despite dropping two match points, Todd sealed the win on her sixth opportunity.
Staying Mentally Strong
The match was a test of Todd’s ability to stay composed under pressure. She acknowledged how Buckner’s late surge forced her to adjust.
“I felt like I was cruising, and then Brooke just started hitting winners left and right. I really just had to play within myself and find a way through in the third game and not think about all the match points I had lost earlier.” – (todd)
A Shot at Gold
With this win, Todd moves one step closer to her second career PPA singles title and her first since winning the Orange County Cup in 2022. Standing in her way is Kaitlyn Christian, who is seeking her third PPA gold medal.
