Strong Start After Reunion
Newman and Wright were one of the most successful pairs in pickleball in 2022 and 2023, winning eight titles and medaling in all 27 events they played together. Their partnership ended after the 2023 season, but their first match back showed they have not lost their chemistry.
Their victory over the No. 27 seeds was a dominant display, with precise shot-making and strong communication on the court. They controlled the pace from the start and never let their opponents gain momentum.
Quarterfinal Spot on the Line
Next, Newman and Wright will face No. 11 seeds Julian Arnold and Hunter Johnson for a spot in the quarterfinals. Wright was pleased with their performance and optimistic about their next challenge.
“For our first match back, I thought that was pretty darn clean. It felt good against a very accomplished team, so no complaints here,”. “I’m excited to keep it rolling.”(Matt Wright)
