Veolia Cape Coral Open Loses Top Seeds! Tyson McGuffin and Pablo Tellez Out of Men’s Singles Draw

Tyson McGuffin and Pablo Tellez: The 2025 PPA Tour Veolia Cape Coral Open Presented by Proton is officially underway at the Lake Kennedy Racquet Center, marking the first-ever PPA Tour event at this venue. Running from March 5 to March 9, the tournament promises high-intensity matchups, but a few notable player withdrawals have already impacted the draw.

Top Seeds Withdraw from Men’s Singles

Two major contenders have withdrawn from the men’s singles bracket:

  • No. 4 seed Tyson McGuffin – Hamstring injury (also sidelined him in Mesa); expected to return for mixed doubles with Lacy Schneemann and men’s doubles with Dekel Bar later this week.
  • No. 11 seed Pablo Tellez – Withdrew Thursday morning, leaving no replacement. The winner of Ryan Sherry vs. Mouaad Alhouni will advance straight to the Round of 16. He is still expected to play mixed doubles with Zoey Chao Yi Wang and men’s doubles with Quang Duong.

With McGuffin out, Nicholas Romano, who fell in the final round of men’s singles qualifying, will take his place as the new No. 4 seed.

Women’s Draw Impact

The women’s singles bracket has only seen one withdrawal so far:

  • No. 28 seed Olivia McMillan – Withdrew from women’s singles but is still set to compete in women’s doubles with Michelle Esquivel on Saturday.

What’s Next?

With last-minute changes to the draw, the tournament’s landscape has shifted. Replacement players and lucky losers now have a golden opportunity to make deep runs, while fans will be watching closely to see if McGuffin and Tellez return strong in doubles play.
