Ammar Wazir Upsets Michael Loyd: The 2025 PPA Tour Veolia Cape Coral Open Presented by Proton continues to deliver thrilling matches, with Ammar Wazir securing a hard-fought victory over No. 10 seed Michael Loyd, winning 11-0, 5-11, 11-8 to advance to the Round of 16 in men’s singles.

Wazir’s Road to Victory

Wazir came out dominant in the first game, securing a perfect 11-0 “pickle” victory in just over six minutes. However, Loyd responded strongly, taking the second game 11-5 to force a deciding third set.

In the final game, both players battled to 4-4, but Wazir took control with a five-point run, surging to a 9-4 lead before sealing the match a few minutes later.

First Career PPA Quarterfinal on the Line

With the win, Wazir, a former University of Illinois-Chicago tennis standout, moves one step closer to his first-ever PPA Tour quarterfinal. Standing in his way is 16-year-old John Goins, who also pulled off an upset in his previous match.
