Fahey’s Long Day on Court

Kate Fahey entered the semifinal with an exhausting day behind her. All three of her previous matches had gone to three games, including tough battles against Callie Smith, Hannah Blatt, and Salome Devidze. These matches added up to nearly two and a half hours of court time, leaving Fahey fatigued heading into her semifinal clash with Waters.

Despite the weariness, Fahey adjusted her game in an attempt to counter Waters’ powerful attack. She began focusing on more drop shots from the baseline instead of driving her passing shots. This change in strategy brought her some success, but it wasn’t enough to stop Waters from taking control late in both sets.

Waters Maintains Composure

Although Fahey posed a challenge, especially in the latter stages of both games, Waters was able to pull away when the match got tight.

Fahey had some stunning moments, making incredible shots that forced Waters to raise her level, but Waters remained composed and finished both sets with strong play. Reflecting on the match, Waters acknowledged Fahey’s skill and resilience.

“I felt like in both games I had a pretty big lead, and then Kate came up with some amazing shots and put some pressure on me. I definitely wasn’t happy about that and wish I could have closed out those games a little quicker, but I feel like I play my best when things get tight.” – (Waters)

Her ability to maintain focus when the pressure was on played a crucial role in securing the win and advancing to the final.

Waters Looks Ahead to Championship Sunday

Waters, the top seed, now has a chance to claim her first singles title of the 2025 season. On Championship Sunday, she will face either Lea Jansen or Zoey Chao Yi Wang in the final. Waters has proven herself to be in outstanding form throughout the tournament and will aim to continue her dominant streak.

Her ability to stay calm under pressure and close out tight games has made her the player to beat in Cape Coral, and she will look to bring that same intensity to the final for a chance to add another title to her 2025 collection.
