New Partnership, Same Success
This tournament marked the first time Anna Bright and JW Johnson teamed up, and they have certainly made a splash.
The pair entered the tournament as an untested partnership but quickly showed their chemistry by winning all five of their matches without losing a game. Anna Bright described their collaboration as fun and easygoing.
“It’s been really fun all day. We’ve been pretty relaxed and telling jokes. I think J-Dub’s calm, cool demeanor is rubbing off on me a little bit, and we’ve just been playing great together. I feel like I just grind until he gets a ball out of the air.” – (Bright)
Defeating Parenteau and Alshon
In the semifinal, Bright and Johnson faced a strong challenge from Parenteau and Alshon. Christian Alshon, known for his athleticism, attempted to dominate the match with his aggressive style.
However, Bright and Johnson managed to read his movements well and countered his attacks effectively, maintaining control of the match. The victory earned them a place in the final.
Looking Ahead to the Final
Bright and Johnson now face the top-seeded team of Anna Leigh Waters and Ben Johns in the final. This match will be a significant challenge, as Waters and Johns are the favorites to win.
However, Bright is confident going into the final after recently defeating Waters and Johns in Mesa, marking their first loss since March 2024.
“There’s definitely another level of belief, but J-Dub and Dekel I’d say are two very different players. They’re both really heavy-handed, which is definitely important against that team, but we’ll have to watch back some of the adjustments that [Anna Leigh and Ben] have made at this tournament, and I’m sure it’ll be a great match.” – (Bright)
