The victory marks a breakthrough moment for the 24-year-old, who had previously fallen short in three singles finals.

A Battle for the Title
Martinez Vich started strong, racing to a 7-2 lead in the opening game with deep serves and precise third-shot winners at the kitchen line. He closed out Game 1, putting Alshon on the defensive early.
However, Alshon adjusted his strategy in Game 2, putting more spin on his returns and disrupting Martinez Vich’s rhythm. The shift paid off as he dominated the second game 11-3, forcing a decisive third.
Alshon’s Serve Seals the Win
In Game 3, Alshon’s powerful serve proved crucial, helping him take an 8-3 lead after four missed returns from Martinez Vich. The early advantage was too much to overcome, and after just under 50 minutes on court, Alshon collapsed in celebration, reminiscent of Rafael Nadal’s iconic Grand Slam moments.
A Long-Awaited Victory
Alshon, who had previously settled for three silver medals in PPA singles finals, finally reached the top of the podium.
“I’ve been playing for a long time, and singles was the best event for me at first. The title eluded me for so long that it felt like I couldn’t win, but Florida is my home state, so it’s awesome to win it here.” – (Alshon)
More Matches to Come
Alshon isn’t done yet—he’ll go for his second gold medal of the day when he and Federico Staksrud face Ben Johns and Andrei Daescu in the men’s doubles final.
Meanwhile, 16-year-old qualifier John Lucian Goins made his mark by securing his first career PPA Tour medal, winning bronze with an 11-6, 9-11, 11-2 victory over Max Freeman.
