A One-Sided Championship Match
From the start, Johns and Daescu controlled the match, forcing multiple volley errors with their powerful baseline drives and consistently countering their opponents’ speedups.
Their only real challenge came early in Game 2, when they briefly trailed 1-5. However, they quickly regained control and never looked back, cruising to one of the most dominant wins of Championship Sunday.
A New Partnership, A Perfect Fit
Both Johns and Daescu typically play the left side with other partners, so Daescu had to adjust to the right side for this tournament. His transition paid off.
“It was a new partnership and a fun challenge this week because we both play the left side. I haven’t played the right in a while, probably since 2023 with Zane [Navratil] in MLP, but I feel like I adapted pretty well. Obviously, playing alongside Ben makes it very easy. I just had to keep the ball in the right spots and pretty much get out of the way, so it was super enjoyable.” – (Daescu)
Johns Praises Daescu’s Adaptability
Johns was quick to commend Daescu’s ability to shift positions so smoothly.
“Andrei’s amazing. I couldn’t have done what he did, which is adapt to the right side in like a week. He played phenomenally, and he’s such a competitor. It’s really a pleasure to be on the court with him.” – (Johns)
Will This Duo Return?
With Johns set to team up with Gabe Tardio for most of the year, it remains uncertain whether he and Daescu will play together again in 2025. When asked about the possibility, Johns remained non-committal.
“You never know. We’ll leave it open ended for now.” – (Johns)
Bronze Medal Match Results
In the battle for bronze, JW Johnson and CJ Klinger (No. 6 seeds) secured third place with an 11-7, 11-6 victory over Dekel Bar and Tyson McGuffin (No. 4 seeds).
