Anna Leigh Waters and Ben Johns secured another mixed doubles title with a commanding 11-4, 11-3, 14-12 victory over No. 2 seeds Jorja Johnson and JW Johnson at the CIBC Texas Open. The duo’s win marks their second consecutive title together and gives Waters her 50th career mixed doubles championship on the PPA Tour.
A Dominant Performance
Despite playing five men’s doubles games earlier in the day, Johns showed no fatigue as he and Waters controlled the match. They dominated the first two games, limiting the Johnsons’ opportunities to gain momentum.
The third game proved to be a challenge, with the Johnsons holding three game points. However, Waters and Johns remained composed, closing out the match in straight games to seal the victory.

Chemistry on the Court
Waters credited their strong partnership as a key factor in their continued success.
“I feel like we have great chemistry on the court. Our games mesh very well together, so I feel like that’s kind of what has brought us here. We’ve known each other forever, and Ben’s like an older brother to me.” – (Waters)
Johns reflected on his journey in professional pickleball, highlighting the sport’s growth since he began competing in 2017.
“It was a completely different world back then. Most people were showing up just to play the game of pickleball. It’s still incredibly enjoyable, but now we get to play it in front of a lot of people that also love pickleball on some incredible championship courts. I’m very thankful for pickleball and everything it’s brought.” – (Johns)
Bronze Medal Match
In the bronze medal match, No. 4 seeds Anna Bright and Hayden Patriquin defeated No. 26 seeds Alix Truong and Eric Oncins in dominant fashion, winning 11-6, 11-0.
Looking Ahead
With this victory, Waters and Johns further solidify their place as one of the top mixed doubles teams in pickleball. Their strong chemistry and consistent performances make them a tough pair to beat in future tournaments.
