PPA Tour Debuts SpotON: The PPA Tour debuted its new SpotON video replay system on Sunday, enhancing line-call accuracy for players and officials. The system, first used on Championship Sunday, provides a visual representation of ball placement and a color-coded dot to indicate whether a shot is in or out.
The SpotON replay system displays a replay alongside a digital mark of where the ball landed. It features a red dot/green dot system: a green dot appears if any part of the ball touches the line, indicating the shot is in, while a red dot shows if the ball is completely outside the line, marking it out.
Advancing Technology in Pickleball
This addition to the PPA Tour is a major step forward for officiating in professional pickleball. After the organization opted not to renew its contract with Close Call Replay at the end of last year, fans had been anticipating an updated system. The introduction of SpotON brings increased transparency and fairness to match decisions.
The need for a video replay system was highlighted just days before its implementation. During a women’s singles match on Thursday night, the absence of replay technology led to a disputed call that sparked discussions among players and fans. The introduction of SpotON aims to prevent similar controversies in future tournaments.
HOTTEST OF HOT TAKES
Don Stanley should NEVER be allowed to be called to a court to review a call that a replay ref has already ruled on. EVER. AGAIN.
This is now the THIRD time this has happened recently.

Impact on the Sport
With SpotON now in place, players can expect more accurate line calls and fewer disputes. The PPA Tour’s continued investment in technology enhances the sport’s integrity and ensures a fair playing field. As the system evolves, it could become a standard feature across all professional pickleball events.
