Pickleball Players Shine at CIBC Texas Open: Top pickleball players gathered at the 2025 Carvana PPA Tour CIBC Texas Open from March 12-16 at the Courts of McKinney. The event featured intense competition while supporting patients with severe eosinophilic asthma. Players and fans participated in activities benefiting the cause, highlighting the sport’s growing impact.
Exciting Matches and Charity Support
The tournament drew hundreds of fans who enjoyed indoor and outdoor matches. Players of all skill levels competed in singles, doubles, and non-competitive games. Competitors battled for a $1.17 million prize pool, with stars like Anna Bright, Jack Sock, Ben Johns, and Tyson McGuffin showcasing their skills.
FASENRA, the event’s sponsor, partnered with the Professional Pickleball Association (PPA) to raise awareness for eosinophilic asthma. The company’s executive director, Matt Gray, emphasized the importance of pickleball for patients.
“PPA and pickleball represent a sport that is really aspirational for our patients … pickleball is an attainable goal for a lot of our patients, it’s something that they can get back to and that’s what we’re trying to reflect.” – (Matt Gray)
“It’s a really nice fit for the demographic we’ve seen affected, that mid 30’s to early 60’s where eosinophilic asthma is a major problem, we just want to get these patients back to doing what they love.” – (Matt Gray)
Community Engagement and Highlights
Dallas resident Jon Feld, a tournament competitor, appreciated the event’s focus on more than just competition.
“It’s a great sport, it keeps me active, and I’ve made a lot of friends playing pickleball. There’s all kind of interesting vendors and interesting, good causes around here, it’s just a great environment for the community around pickleball … I play here all the time in other leagues, so it’s been good to come back and compete.” – (Jon Feld)
The event also featured a Junior PPA tournament for young players and a collegiate showcase match between Texas A&M University and the University of Texas. The Longhorns secured a victory over the Aggies in the friendly competition.
Future of the PPA Tour
Anna Leigh Waters won gold in singles and mixed doubles, while Parris Todd and Hurricane Tyra Black secured their first women’s doubles title together. The PPA Tour continues in March with its next stop in St. George, Utah.
