Lea Jansen Stuns with Comeback Victory, Secures Semifinal Spot Amid Grueling Schedule

Lea Jansen Stuns with Comeback Victory: Lea Jansen secured her fourth consecutive semifinal appearance in women’s singles at the Veolia North Carolina Open, overcoming No. 13 seed Genie Bouchard 11-0, 11-13, 11-2. Jansen rebounded from a missed match point in the second game to dominate the decider and advance at Cary Tennis Park.

Jansen Overcomes Setback

Jansen controlled the opening game with a flawless 11-0 win and built a 7-3 lead in the second. However, Bouchard fought back, saving match point and taking the game 13-11 to force a third.

Undeterred, Jansen quickly regained control. She shut down Bouchard’s momentum in the final game, sealing an 11-2 win to secure her spot in the semifinals.

Challenges of a Grueling Schedule

This event marks the second in a demanding back-to-back stretch for Jansen, who also competed last week in St. George, Utah. The long travel and short turnaround have made recovery difficult.

“I just kind of wanted to make do today, but we’re all pretty much in the same boat,” Jansen said. “This back-to-back is pretty tough, especially with one less day. You just kind of have to swing through it and hope the weekend goes better.”

Semifinal Matchup Set

Jansen will compete in the semifinals against either No. 6 seed Parris Todd or No. 14 seed Jorja Johnson. With her strong form, she remains a contender for the title this weekend.
