Devilliers Recovers After Tough Start

Jay Devilliers lost the first game 5-11 and trailed 0-6 in the second. But he stayed focused and fought back to win Game 2, 11-9. That forced a third and final game between the two players. The third game also started badly for Jay Devilliers. He was behind 0-5 before switching sides.

“I felt like there was one side that was better than the other, and I knew I was gonna finish on that side. I tried my best to keep it as close as possible on the other side. When I got it to 3-6, I knew I had a chance.” – (Devilliers)

Victory After a Long Match

Jay Devilliers made his comeback count. He stayed strong and eventually won the final game 13-11, sealing the match after more than an hour on court. The win was even more meaningful because of his past losses to Jaume Martinez Vich.

“I had match point against Jaume when we played in Bristol and Mesa, and I wasn’t able to close it out. I’m very, very happy with the win. This is only my fourth tournament of the year in singles, so I’m very happy with how I’m playing.” – (Devilliers)

Next Match for Devilliers

Devilliers will face No. 11 seed Gabe Tardio on Thursday in the Round of 16. He will try to continue his strong play and reach the quarterfinals.

Why This Win Matters

Devilliers showed determination and patience to beat a top-five seed. This match adds to his confidence, especially since he has not played many singles tournaments this year. His ability to stay calm under pressure could help him go further in the event.
