Veolia Atlanta Pickleball Championships Upsets: Men’s singles at the 2025 Veolia Atlanta Pickleball Championships once again proved to be the hardest event to predict. Only 9 of the top 16 seeds made it to the round of 16, with many struggling in early matches. Upsets, including a major one by Federico Staksrud, marked the competition.
Big Gap Between Men’s and Other Events
Other events at the tournament showed far more consistency. In women’s doubles, all 16 top seeds reached the round of 16. Mixed doubles followed closely with 15 of 16, men’s doubles had 14 of 16, and women’s singles saw 13 of 16 top seeds advance.
Men’s singles, however, had only 9 of the top 16 seeds make it through. Even among those nine, five players needed three games to win in the round of 32. That means only four players reached the round of 16 without dropping a game.
Early Exit for a Top Name
A big surprise came when top seed Federico Staksrud lost in the first round. His early exit showed how tough and unpredictable men’s singles can be. No other event at the tournament had as many surprises or tough matches early on.
What’s Next for the Players
Players will now shift their focus to Major League Pickleball. Upcoming MLP events are set for Austin, Phoenix, and Daytona Beach. After that, the PPA Tour returns on June 16 with the Select Medical Orange County Cup in San Clemente, California.
