Connor Garnett’s Comeback: Connor Garnett pulled off one of the most dramatic wins of the 2025 PPA season on Friday, June 20, during the men’s singles quarterfinals at the Select Medical Orange County Cup in San Clemente, California. Facing massive deficits in both games, Garnett rallied to defeat former tennis pro Jack Sock 11-9, 12-10 and advance to Semifinal Saturday.
From 2–9 and 0–10 to Victory
In a match full of wild swings, Garnett trailed 2-9 in game one but stormed back to win 11-9. The comeback in game two was even more improbable—Sock built a 10-0 lead, only for Garnett to win 12 straight points without giving up a single side out, closing the match 12-10.
“[Jack] can come out and just take over, so I just had to keep battling and keep fighting. Singles is a game of runs, so anything can happen. Super stoked to come out with this one.”-(Connor Garnett)
Resilience on Display Throughout the Week
This wasn’t Garnett’s first comeback of the tournament. In the Round of 16, he faced Grayson Goldin and saved five match points in game two before sealing the win in the third.
“I think it’s just testament to how good singles is right now. Everyone out here is playing so well, and often you’ve got to fight through adversity to get the dub.”-(Connor Garnett)
His grit and composure under pressure have become a defining feature of his run in Southern California.
