Jack Wong Sets Sights on Historic Triple Crown at Hong Kong Pickleball Open

Jack Wong Pickleball Triple Crown Bid: Top Hong Kong pickleball player Jack Wong Hong-kit is preparing to compete in all three events at the Professional Pickleball Association (PPA) Tour Asia’s Hong Kong Open, which will be held from August 21 to 24, 2025, at Kai Tak Arena. Wong has announced his goal of winning gold in men’s singles, men’s doubles, and mixed doubles.

The 26-year-old athlete, who previously played tennis for Hong Kong, is making his home debut at this international event. He will partner Kim Eunggwon of South Korea in the men’s doubles and team up with his younger sister, professional tennis player Cody Wong Hong-yi, in the mixed doubles.

Wong Ready to Compete at Home

Speaking about the upcoming tournament, Jack Wong Hong-kit said,

“I am aiming for a gold medal in all three events.”, “When I first heard the tournament was coming to Hong Kong, I was actually quite excited.

It’s the first time a bigger tournament is being played here, but I’m not thinking about whether it will motivate me more or give me extra pressure – it’s all about playing my best game in a change of environment, wherever we play.”

Jack Wong Hong-kit also confirmed he will take part in all PPA Tour Asia events this year.

“I expect to play in all PPA Tour Asia events this year,”. “It’s going to bring some of the best players, including from the United States, to the region so it is going to be competitive.”

Regional and Global Competition Expands

The Hong Kong Open is part of the PPA Tour Asia’s Open tier, one of three major Open events this year. The tour began in Kuala Lumpur earlier this month. It will then move to Fukuoka in late August and to Ho Chi Minh City in early September.

Following the Open events, the China Slam—scheduled for October 1 to 5, 2025—is set to be the top-tier tournament. A Cup-level event will close out the season in Kuala Lumpur. However, reports suggest the China Slam, originally set for Shanghai, could be moved to Kuala Lumpur, making it the third event hosted there this season.

Asian Players Push Back on Expectations

Jack Wong Hong-kit wants to prove that Asian players can be strong challengers on the international stage.

“I hope I can break through. I don’t want the top players to think they can easily win when facing Asian players like me – it’s about fighting for our names,”.

Chinese athlete Long Yufei, who recently won the women’s singles at the Malaysia Open, is also expected to compete in Hong Kong, bringing even more international talent to the event.

Looking Ahead to a Landmark Event

With the Hong Kong Open just weeks away, fans and players alike are preparing for a high-level tournament in one of Asia’s most advanced sports venues. As local players like Jack Wong Hong-kit aim for big wins, the event is set to be a major milestone for pickleball’s growth in the region.
