Why Anna Bright Risked It All for a Singles Comeback at the PPA Bristol Open

Anna Bright Singles Comeback PPA Bristol: Anna Bright returned to singles action at the Veolia PPA Bristol Open after nine months away, aiming to sharpen her game for the upcoming Major League Pickleball playoffs in San Diego, California. Entering as the 40th seed, she achieved notable victories before falling in the quarterfinals on Thursday.

Strong Start in Singles

Anna Bright faced tough opponents early. She beat Martina Frantova 7-11, 11-1, 11-2 in the Round of 64, then defeated Lea Jansen 7-11, 11-4, 11-9 in the Round of 32. In the Round of 16, she overcame Jorja Johnson 11-5, 11-2. Her run ended with a 4-11, 11-13 loss to Judit Castillo in the quarterfinals.

Why She Returned

After the match, Anna Bright explained her reason for competing.

“With how stacked the [MLP] playoffs are going to be, the probability of never playing a Dreambreaker has to be close to zero,”

she said. She added,

“I wanted to do everything I could to feel confident in them and to minimize my ability to hate myself if I had a bad one.”

Anna Bright also wrote in her newsletter,

“I often make decisions based on what I can do to minimize possible regret in the future, and that’s why I chose to play today… If I played a poor Dreambreaker and didn’t get any singles reps to prepare myself I would have a lot of regret and shame. So I played!”

Looking Ahead

Anna Bright’s intense playing style is well-known, even inspiring a pickleball anthem by fellow PPA pro Alex Crum, also known as AC Baby. Her singles appearance at the Bristol Open gave her valuable match experience ahead of the high-pressure Major League Pickleball playoffs next weekend.
