10 Million Prize Awaits as PPA Tour Asia Sansan Fukuoka Open Draws Global Pickleball Talent to Japan

PPA Tour Asia Sansan Fukuoka Open: The PPA Tour Asia, Sansan Fukuoka Open will be held from August 26 to August 31, 2025, at the Itoshima City Sports Park in Fukuoka, Japan. The event will feature both professional and amateur pickleball competitions with a total prize pool of about ¥10,000,000 (USD 70,000).

Registration Deadlines

Tournament organizers have confirmed that registration for amateur events has been extended to August 8, 2025, at 5:00 p.m. JST. Registration for professional events officially closed on July 31, 2025, at 10:00 a.m. JST. Players can review the full schedule online through the official event page.

Organizers and Supporters

The event is organized by Sansan, Inc. under the authority of the United Pickleball Association Asia Pte. Ltd. Tournament operations will be handled by Pickleball One, Inc.

Supporters include Kyushu Asahi Broadcasting Co., Ltd. (KBC), Gojin Co., Ltd., and the Pickleball Japan Federation (General Incorporated Foundation). The Japan Pickleball Association (General Incorporated Association) is also cooperating. Event sponsorship is still under negotiation.

Entry Rules

Players are allowed to compete in both professional and amateur categories. However, players may not register for more than one amateur event on the same day. If they do, those entries will be canceled to avoid scheduling conflicts.

Pro Events

Professional players will be entered into the main draw based on their PPA ranking points, followed by DUPR ratings for those without PPA rankings. Wild card entries will be awarded at the discretion of PPA Tour Asia.

Each main draw will have four spots reserved for qualifiers. Seeding and draws will be determined after all direct entries are confirmed. No partner changes are allowed in the main draw once finalized, though qualifier partner changes are permitted until 6:00 p.m. the day before competition.

Both pro main draw and qualifier matches will follow a single elimination format, best two out of three games to 11 points, win by 2. Bronze medal matches will also use this format.

Amateur Events

Amateur matches will vary by category:

  • Skill Events (Any Age): Double elimination, best of three to 11 in the main draw. Consolation matches will be one game to 11.

  • Junior, 35+, and 50+ Divisions: Teams will compete in round robin pool play, followed by playoffs. Playoff and medal matches will be one game to 15, win by 2.

  • Prize Matches: Decided by single elimination, one game to 15, win by 2.

Organizers have noted that schedules and formats may change depending on the number of participants and match lengths.

Paddle Certification

Professional players must use UPA-A certified paddles. Amateur players may use either UPA-A certified paddles or USAP approved paddles listed by USA Pickleball.
