Teen Phenom John Lucian Goins Stuns Again with Back-to-Back Pickleball Titles in Las Vegas

John Lucian Goins Pickleball Streak: Seventeen-year-old John Lucian Goins captured his second straight men’s singles title on the PPA Tour on August 31, 2025. He defeated No. 2 seed Hunter Johnson 11-4, 11-9 at the Las Vegas event, following his first career win at the Veolia Bristol Open earlier in August.

A Strong Comeback

Hunter Johnson, who recently overtook Federico Staksrud as the No. 1 PPA men’s singles player, started strong in the first game, leading 3-0. Goins responded with a 21-6 run to take the first game and gained match point at 10-5 in the second. Johnson narrowed the lead to one point, but Goins reclaimed the serve and closed out the match.

How Goins Sealed the Win

John Lucian Goins reflected on staying focused under pressure.

“[Johnson] was putting a lot of pressure on me. His shots were all really deep, so I just had to dig deep, get low, and hit the ball deep myself,”

He said.

“I knew I couldn’t let him get to the net because at the end there he started covering the volleys really well, so I was just trying to focus on getting one side out. I’m just so glad that I was able to convert in the end.”

Significance and Future Goals

With this win, John Lucian Goins joins Ben Johns, Zane Navratil, Federico Staksrud, Hunter Johnson, and Christian Alshon as the only players to win back-to-back men’s singles titles on the PPA Tour. Goins acknowledged that despite his momentum, there is more work ahead.

“I’m just trying to not let it get to my head and not to get a big eg. I just have to go back to practicing because you can always improve. Everyone’s improving, and nothing is set in stone.”(John Lucian Goins)
