A Veteran and a Rising Star
The partnership blended Koller’s experience with Truong’s youthful energy. Their strong teamwork kept control of the match, giving them a comfortable win over Wall and Wild.
“I’m just psyched for this kid. He’s an up-and-comer and he’s a future star of this game.
I’m a dinosaur. I’m going to be out of the sport eventually and he’s going to be here for a long time, so I’m just proud of him, proud of his fight. He showed a ton of poise, and I think that’s why people are starting to take him really seriously.”( AJ Koller)
A Breakthrough Moment for Truong
For 18-year-old Jonathan Truong, the victory marked a major milestone in his young career.
“It feels great taking home gold. It’s my first-ever win in a pro tournament. It’s my second tournament while being signed with the PPA, so obviously it’s exciting.
“AJ is obviously a veteran of the game. He has many gold medals. This is my first, so I’m just super happy to pull off the win, especially here in Vietnam. It’s an honor.”(Jonathan Truong)
