Parris Todd Withdraws From Singles
Parris Todd, the No. 4 seed, was scheduled to play her doubles partner, Catherine Parenteau in the women’s singles quarterfinals. With Todd out, Parenteau advances straight to the semifinals. She will meet either Anna Leigh Waters or Judit Castillo on Saturday.
Despite the withdrawal, Todd is still expected to compete in women’s doubles later Friday. She and Catherine Parenteau are set to face No. 12 seeds Brooke Buckner and Chao Yi Wang.
Federico Staksrud vs. Chris Haworth
In men’s singles, No. 2 seed Federico Staksrud will meet No. 57 seed Chris Haworth. This matchup is highly anticipated as Haworth has beaten Staksrud in their last three meetings. Their most recent clash was at the 2024 Kansas City Open, where Haworth won 11-7, 0-11, 11-9 in the bronze medal match.
Chris Haworth, a new PPA signee, will try to build on his ranking, while Federico Staksrud will look to capture his first title since January.
Milan Rane and Connor Garnett’s Strong Run
Another major storyline is the performance of Milan Rane and Connor Garnett in mixed doubles. The No. 21 seeds have reached the quarterfinals after back-to-back wins. They defeated No. 15 seeds Callie Smith and Jay Devilliers, followed by No. 3 seeds Catherine Parenteau and Christian Alshon.
Rane and Garnett also reached the quarterfinals last month in Bristol. On Friday, they will aim to take the next step when they play No. 7 seeds Jessie Irvine and Gabe Tardio.
Why It Matters
The quarterfinals on Friday could reshape the draws in singles and doubles. Parris Todd’s absence gives Catherine Parenteau a direct path to the semifinals, while Federico Staksrud and Chris Haworth’s match adds tension to the men’s singles field. Milan Rane and Connor Garnett’s surprising run also highlights the growing depth of competition.
