Charleston Metro PPA Challenger Ignites Fierce Showdown: Pros, Amateurs, and High Stakes Collide This Fall

The Charleston Metro PPA Challenger will be held from October 3 to October 5, 2025, at Collins Park, 4155 Fellowship Road, North Charleston, South Carolina. Registration for the event has now closed. The tournament will feature both professional and amateur players, offering matches that decide medals, cash prizes, and ranking points.

Competition for Amateur Players

Amateurs will get the chance to play alongside Championship Court, where professionals compete. Players at skill levels 5.0 and 4.5 will compete in a double-elimination format with no second chance for gold after a loss. Matches will follow:

  • Main draw: best two of three games to 11 points.

  • Consolation: one game to 15 points.

  • Bronze medal match: best two of three games to 11 points.

  • Gold medal match: best two of three games to 11 points.

If fewer than six teams or players enter, the format will change to round robin play. For divisions at 4.0, 3.5, and 3.0, the structure will depend on the number of entries. Formats may include single round robins, pools with playoffs, or double elimination for larger brackets. Matches and playoff games will generally be played to 15 points, while gold medal matches will remain two of three games to 11 points.

Tournament organizers also reserve the right to combine divisions with fewer than four teams or singles players, and seeding will be based on DUPR ratings.

Professional Competition

Professional divisions will follow a double-elimination format as well, with no return to gold contention after a loss. Match rules include:

  • Main draw: best two of three games to 11 points.

  • Consolation: one game to 15 points.

  • Bronze medal match: best two of three games to 11 points.

  • Gold medal match: best two of three games to 11 points.

Points will be awarded for placements:

  • 1st place: 125 points.

  • 2nd place: 100 points.

  • 3rd place: 75 points.

  • 4th place: 50 points.

  • 5th place: 40 points.

  • Quarterfinals: 25 points.

  • Round of 16: 12 points.

  • Round of 32: 6 points.

  • Round of 64: 3 points.

The official tournament ball will be the LT Pro 48.

Player Rules and Policies

Players must be fully paid and have registered partners to confirm their spot. Anyone without a registered and paid partner after seven days will be moved to a waitlist. If the division fills before the partner is added, the player will remain waitlisted until space opens.

For doubles, if a registered partner drops out after registration closes, the replacement must already be in the tournament and within the same skill or age division. Players are allowed to play down in age or up in skill but must follow event rules.

Organizers also note that match formats may be shortened if weather delays occur.

Significance of the Tournament

The Charleston Metro PPA Challenger provides a major stage for both rising professionals and dedicated amateurs. With points, medals, and cash prizes on the line, the event helps strengthen pickleball’s competitive structure and gives fans a chance to see future stars develop in a professional environment.
