The Dink Minor League Pickleball Experience

The Dink Minor League Pickleball is more than just a tournament; it’s a celebration of the sport’s future. With its MLPlay format, the event introduces a fresh and exciting take on traditional pickleball competitions. Teams of four—comprising two men and two women—will face off in a series of matches designed to test their skill, strategy, and teamwork.

MLPlay Format

The MLPlay format is a standout feature, designed to level the playing field and enhance competitive balance. Each match consists of four 21-point games:

  • One women’s doubles
  • One men’s doubles
  • Two mixed doubles games

If the match ends in a 2-2 tie, the excitement continues with a Dreambreaker. In this tiebreaker, one player from each team competes in a singles match, switching opponents every four rallies until one player reaches 21 points, winning by two.

DUPR Divisions

The tournament will feature several DUPR (Dynamic Universal Pickleball Rating) divisions, ensuring that teams compete against others of similar skill levels. Here’s a breakdown of the divisions and their requirements:

  • DUPR 12: Aggregate DUPR must not exceed 12.30; maximum individual DUPR of 3.60.
  • DUPR 14: Aggregate DUPR must not exceed 14.30; maximum individual DUPR of 4.10.
  • DUPR 16: Aggregate DUPR must not exceed 16.30; maximum individual DUPR of 4.60.
  • DUPR 18: Aggregate DUPR must not exceed 18.30; maximum individual DUPR of 5.10.
  • DUPR 20: Aggregate DUPR must not exceed 20.99.

Once a team registers, their ratings are locked, providing a stable competitive environment regardless of individual player rating changes.

Registration and Policies

Players wishing to participate must have a DUPR account at the time of registration. While players without a rating can compete, their estimated rating will be verified by the tournament director. Single registrations must include the team name and DUPR division for clarity. For those unable to form a team, the tournament director will attempt to place them with a team, with registration fees refunded if placement isn’t possible.

Teams needing a substitute can update their roster via Swish or directly through the tournament organizer. Importantly, any substitute players must ensure that the team’s total DUPR does not exceed the maximum allowed for their division.
