Johns Brothers Advance to PPA Quarter Amidst Injury Challenges

Johns Brothers Advance to PPA Quarter: The Johns brothers, Ben and Collin, demonstrated resilience and teamwork at the CIBC PPA Atlanta Slam presented by Vizzy, advancing to the men’s doubles quarterfinals with an 11-5, 11-6 victory over Steve Deakin and Ivan Jakovljevic. Despite Ben Johns battling an ankle injury, the pair managed to secure their place in the next round.

Ben Johns’ Injury

Ben Johns, who had to withdraw from his men’s singles match against Grayson Goldin earlier in the day due to the same injury, showed remarkable determination by competing in both mixed doubles and men’s doubles.

Collin Johns adjusted his strategy, taking on a more aggressive role from the right side to alleviate some of the movement demands on Ben. “I knew I was going to have to cover more court than usual, so I tried to be aggressive and reduce the amount that [Ben] had to move,” Collin explained.

Ben’s Perspective

Ben Johns acknowledged the challenges posed by his injury, stating, “It’s not great, but these things happen. I’ve been lucky in my career to not have many injuries, but rolling it yesterday was definitely not the best timing.” Despite his discomfort, Ben and Collin’s coordinated effort ensured their progression to the next round.

Upcoming Challenge

The No. 2 seeds, Ben and Collin Johns, will face the No. 6 seeds, Andrei Daescu and Gabriel Tardio, in Friday’s quarterfinals. The match will be a critical test of their ability to perform under pressure and continue their successful run in the tournament.
