Dekel Bar and Pablo Tellez Overcome Early Setback: Dekel Bar and Pablo Tellez rebounded from a tough opening game to secure a 6-11, 11-4, 11-3 victory over No. 6 seeds Tyson McGuffin and Jaume Martinez Vich in the men’s doubles quarterfinals at the Lapiplasty Pickleball World Championships.
The No. 4 seeds struggled early as Tyson McGuffin and Jaume Martinez Vich came out firing, winning the first game convincingly. However, Dekel Bar and Pablo Tellez quickly regrouped, taking control in the second and third games to seal the win and earn their spot in the semifinals.
Key to Their Success
A standout feature of Bar and Tellez’s game is their ability to use their length effectively at the kitchen line. Both players excel at creating erne opportunities, putting constant pressure on their opponents. Known for their sharp reflexes and ability to take dinks out of the air, Bar and Tellez were able to dictate the pace once they found their rhythm. “Being able to threaten with ernes is amazing because people can’t hit wide or line dinks to us,” Tellez explained. “They usually have to hit middle, which is to each of our forehands, so that’s usually an advantage for us.”
Semifinal Matchup
With their victory, Bar and Tellez will face another lefty-righty combination in Quang Duong and CJ Klinger on Saturday. The winner will earn a spot in the final, with Bar and Tellez eager to continue their momentum and advance to Championship Sunday.
