Dominant Performance Leads to Early Advantage
Michael Loyd quickly found his rhythm, capitalizing on powerful serves and strategic dips in his drives, which set him up for successful attacks on his fifth shots. He used these tools to dominate the first game and then took an early 9-2 lead in the second.
Though Quang Duong mounted a strong comeback, closing the score to 8-10, Michael Loyd’s composed play allowed him to close out the match without the need for a deciding game.
Sweet Redemption for Michael Loyd
Saturday’s victory was particularly satisfying for Michael Loyd, as he had suffered a heavy loss (2-11, 2-11) to Quang Duong the last time they met in the semifinals of the Rate Championships in Las Vegas.
“I thought I had a better read on the patterns. I watched film from some of the matches he’s played throughout the past couple months and just felt like I had a good gameplan. I was trying to knife the volleys and get them down so that he couldn’t come in and shake-and-bake off his own ball.” – (Michael Loyd)
His tactical focus on volleying low and preventing Quang Duong’s offensive plays proved pivotal in the victory.
