PPA Tour Australia Melbourne Championships, Gold Rush for Top Picklers in Melbourne

The 2024 PPA Tour Australia Melbourne Championships concluded on Sunday, November 10, with intense doubles matches that highlighted some of the best pickleball talent from around the world. The event was part of a broader series, with over $700,000 in prize money at stake across six tournaments this year. Players from various corners of the globe, including many who participated in the PWR DUPR India Masters last month, brought their A-game to the courts in Melbourne.

Men’s Doubles: Kyle Yates and Mitchell Hargreaves Take Gold

The Men’s Doubles competition featured fierce battles between top-ranked pairs. Kyle Yates and Mitchell Hargreaves emerged victorious, claiming the gold medal.

Their strong performance saw them defeat George Wall and Joseph Wild, who earned the silver after a hard-fought match. In a notable matchup, Armaan Bhatia and Harsh Mehta, the Indian duo who had won in the India Masters, finished with a bronze, edging out Roman Estareja and Oliver Grey.

Women’s Doubles: Sarah Burr and Michaela Haet Dominate

In the Women’s Doubles event, Sarah Burr and Michaela Haet claimed the gold medal with a solid victory over Liz Truluck and Kao Pei Chuan, who settled for silver after a close 11-8, 5-11, 9-11 defeat.

Michelle Esquivel and Danni Elle-Townsend rounded out the medal podium, securing the bronze after a win against Kaitlynn Hart and Andie Dikosavljevic. Notably, Kao Pei Chuan had previously finished as the runner-up in the Women’s Singles event at the India Masters.

Mixed Doubles: Shelby Bates and Armaan Bhatia Capture Gold

The Mixed Doubles competition also delivered some thrilling action. Shelby Bates and Armaan Bhatia claimed the gold medal after a dominant performance. Bhatia’s impressive showing at the event continued with this win, adding a gold to his collection after also taking home a bronze in Men’s Doubles.

The silver medal in Mixed Doubles went to Emilia Schmidt and Mitchell Hargreaves, who were defeated 6-11, 5-11 by the victors. Michelle Esquivel and Rob Cassidy took home the bronze, securing Esquivel’s second bronze medal of the Melbourne Championships.
