Kawamoto Sisters Face Top Seeds After Downing Brascias in Milwaukee Showdown

Kawamoto Sisters Face Top Seeds After Downing Brascias: The evening at the Baird Center concluded with an exciting women’s doubles match that saw the Kawamoto sisters, Jackie and Jade, overcome Mary Brascia and Maggie Brascia. The No. 4 seeds triumphed 11-6, 11-6, showcasing solid defense and impressive resets that allowed them to dominate at the kitchen line. Despite the familial rivalry, the Kawamoto’s emerged as the steadier duo, setting up their first appearance in a final together since PPA Cincinnati in 2023.

A Milestone Victory for Jackie and Jade Kawamoto

Both Jackie and Jade Kawamoto have made Championship Sunday appearances earlier in 2024 with different partners, but this victory at the PPA Milwaukee Open marks a special milestone for the pair. This is their first time advancing to a women’s doubles final together in over a year. Jackie couldn’t help but express her gratitude: “There’s no one else I’d rather make it to Championship Sunday with than Jade. We can get on each other’s last nerve, but we’re happy to be here together.”

This win also holds added significance for Jackie, as it propels her into the final women’s doubles qualifying spot for the prestigious CIBC PPA Tour Finals in December, surpassing Vivienne David in the standings. On the flip side, Jade, trailing her sister by 50 points, finds herself just outside of that qualification—ironically, she will be the first player to miss the cut.

Looking Ahead: Championship Sunday Matchup Against Top Seeds

With the win in hand, the Kawamoto sisters now set their sights on the gold medal match, where they will face the top-seeded duo of Anna Bright and Rachel Rohrabacher. The matchup will undoubtedly be a challenging one, as Jade is all too aware of Bright and Rohrabacher’s dominance in the sport. Having previously defeated them in Atlanta earlier this year with her partner Andrea Koop, Jade knows that this final will require their best effort.

It’s definitely gonna be tough,” Jade commented. “It seems like they’re in every final, so we’re definitely gonna need to be at the top of our game in order to win.”

Brascia/Brascia to Compete for Bronze

Meanwhile, the Brascia sisters, Mary and Maggie, are not out of contention. They will compete against Hurricane Tyra Black and Allyce Jones in the women’s doubles bronze medal match on Sunday.
