A Perfect Match of Styles
From the start, Staksrud and Tardio’s strategy was clear—aggressive, precise dinks that controlled the game at the kitchen line. Their ability to work as a cohesive unit suffocated their opponents, limiting their opportunities and running away with the victory.
“I think our game styles match pretty well. Fed likes the left, and I like the right. We’re both really consistent and aggressive at the same time, so it’s a great combination.” – (Gabe Tardio)
Staksrud Pays Tribute to CJ Klinger
While their victory was impressive, Staksrud also took a moment to reflect on the significance of his opponent, 18-year-old CJ Klinger, who had made his first PPA Tour final. Staksrud, who credits Klinger with introducing him to professional pickleball, offered high praise for the young player.
“[CJ] is the one who actually introduced me to pro pickleball, so I owe him a lot. He’s a great guy, a great friend, and a great player.” – (Federico Staksrud)
Staksrud and Tardio Eye More Titles
Though the men’s doubles title was in the bag, Staksrud and Tardio weren’t done yet. Later in the day, Staksrud would return to the court to face Hunter Johnson for the men’s singles title.
Tardio, on the other hand, would team up with Jessie Irvine for the mixed doubles final, where they would face Anna Bright and Dylan Frazier.
