A Strong Start from Johnson/Schneemann
Johnson and Schneemann, who had never played together before, made waves by upsetting Anna Leigh Waters and Catherine Parenteau earlier in pool play. They continued their strong performance in the final by winning the first game with ease.
Bright/Rohrabacher Adjust Their Game
After losing the first game, Bright and Rohrabacher changed their approach. Instead of playing their usual fast-paced game, they slowed things down, focusing on longer points and making better decisions.
“[Jorja and Lacy] have good hands. They’re both uniquely very good at their bodies, which not a lot of women are, and so we just had to settle into making better decisions and playing longer points,” Bright explained. “It’s not easy because we like to play pretty spastic, but sometimes you’ve got to be willing to play some nice, boring pickleball.”
This shift in strategy worked, as they won the next two games to take the match in three sets.
Looking Ahead to Championship Sunday
With the victory, Bright/Rohrabacher earned a spot in the final match on Championship Sunday. They previously defeated Waters and Parenteau with a three-game sweep in Dallas and will look for another strong performance in Southern California.
