Catherine Parenteau and Christian Alshon became the first team to secure a spot in the mixed doubles final at the CIBC PPA Tour Finals with an 11-4, 11-9 victory over Jorja Johnson and JW Johnson. Despite a strong fight from the Johnson siblings, who have won ten mixed doubles medals together this year, Catherine Parenteau and Christian Alshon won in straight games.
Johnson Siblings Push for a Decider
The Johnson siblings seemed poised to force a third game when they took a 5-2 lead in Game 2. However, Parenteau and Alshon made a comeback, clawing their way back into the match and ultimately sealing the win.
Christian Alshon’s Dominance
Catherine Parenteau praised Christian Alshon for being such a dominant partner, making it easy for her to play alongside him.
“It’s so easy to play next to Christian,” she said. “All I really have to do is put the ball in play, and he’s gonna take care of the rest.”
Undefeated Except Against Waters/Johns
With this win, Parenteau and Alshon remain undefeated in matches where they are not facing top seeds Anna Leigh Waters and Ben Johns. They will have a chance to secure their first victory over the top seeds on Championship Sunday.
