Redemption for Waters
For Waters, this victory was more than just another win. She had been hoping to reach the 30 Triple Crown mark at the World Championships in Dallas back in November but fell one women’s doubles title short. However, she wasn’t about to let that disappointment remain.
“I was really hoping for my 30th in Dallas and came up a little bit short, but I honestly don’t think I’ve ever worked quite as hard as I did after that tournament because I really wanted to finish this year winning a Triple Crown.” – (Waters)
A Personal Victory in San Clemente
The match held personal significance for Waters beyond just the title and milestone. It was a chance for redemption. In 2022, Todd had bested Waters in the final of the Orange County Cup, also held at Life Time Rancho San Clemente.
“I got revenge for 15-year-old AL after losing to her in San Clemente in the finals a couple of years ago. I hadn’t played her in a final here since then, and I was honestly really happy that I was getting a chance to today. [Parris] is an amazing player, and I’m just glad to finish out the win.” – (Waters)
Todd’s Rise in 2024
While Waters enjoyed a victorious moment, Todd’s year has been impressive in its own right. The 2024 season saw Todd solidify her status as one of the top female players across all disciplines. From not holding a PPA singles ranking in January, she climbed her way into the top 8 by year’s end.
“This was really my first full-time year on the PPA Tour, so I’m really proud of myself and give all glory to God.” – (Todd)
With her trajectory, Todd is expected to be a key player in 2025.
