Future of Pickleball Ratings: USA Pickleball has announced a partnership with UTR Sports to launch the UTR-Pickleball Rating (UTR-P) system for tournaments, leagues, and recreational activities. This new official rating replaces the previous UTPR ratings and is designed to enhance player experiences across the sport.
Benefits of the UTR-P System
The UTR-P system is based on a decade of UTR Sports’ experience in ratings and is considered the gold standard. As part of this transition, USA Pickleball is updating how player divisions are displayed in upcoming Golden Ticket tournaments. For instance, a player registered in the UTR-P 4.0 Division will now be listed under the traditional 3.0 Division.
A comparison chart highlights how UTR-P ratings convert to traditional ratings:
| UTR-P Rating | Traditional Rating |
| 4 | 3 |
| 4.5 | 3.5 |
| 5 | 4 |
| 5.5 | 4.5 |
| 6 | 5 |
| 6.5+ (PRO) | 5.5+ (PRO) |
Claiming the UTR-P Rating
To benefit from the UTR-P system, players must claim their profiles. The process is free and straightforward. Players are advised not to use the mobile app or create a second account if they encounter issues. Instead, they should follow these steps:
Go to UTRSports.net and click “JOIN.”
Enter your email and select a password.
Enter your name as it appears in your USA Pickleball membership.
Fill in your Zip Code, Phone Number, and Date of Birth.
Confirm your profile when it appears.
Why UTR-P Matters
The UTR-P system is designed for players of all ages and skill levels, with features that include separate ratings for singles and doubles. Ratings will change dynamically, keeping them as accurate as possible. This allows players to compete confidently against others of similar skill levels.
USA Pickleball will use the UTR-P system for all USAP-owned events, including the upcoming Biofreeze USA Pickleball National Championships at the Arizona Athletic Grounds from November 9 to 17, 2025.
News in Brief: Future of Pickleball Ratings
