Upstate New York Pickleball Championship: Epic Weekend of Competition and Cause

The Upstate New York Pickleball Championship, presented by the Capital District YMCA and MVP Health Care, is set to take place from September 20 to September 22, 2024, at the Broadview Center on the University at Albany campus. This highly anticipated event promises a weekend of competitive play across multiple divisions and formats, catering to participants of various age groups and skill levels.

Tournament Overview

The championship offers more than just traditional doubles and mixed doubles categories. Participants have the opportunity to compete in open divisions as well as age-specific events, providing flexibility and inclusivity for all players.

Friday, September 20:

  • Open Divisions
    • Open All Ages Women’s Doubles (12+)
    • Open All Ages Men’s Doubles (12+)
    • Open Mixed Doubles (12+)

Saturday, September 21:

  • Age-Specific Women’s Doubles
    • Women’s Doubles (Age 18-49)
    • Women’s Doubles (Age 50+)
  • Age-Specific Men’s Doubles

Sunday, September 22:

Participant Flexibility

For instance, a 50-year-old woman can compete in multiple events. On Friday, she could play in Open All Ages Women’s Doubles and Open Mixed Doubles. On Saturday, she could opt for the 50+ Women’s Doubles category. Finally, on Sunday, she could team up with a partner in the Mixed Doubles 50+ category or play in the 18-49 bracket if her partner is younger.

Event Structure and Venue

The championship will be played indoors on hardwood courts at the Broadview Center. Nine courts will be available for play, and each participant is guaranteed three games per event. The event offers no refunds after September 4, 2024.
